East Baton Rouge Parish is blessed with a wonderful organization, BREC, established in 1946 to develop, maintain, and operate public park and recreational facilities. There are more than 180 parks in the system.

When I was a teenager, my family lived in Kenilworth subdivision. My brother played football for Lee High School and they played some of their games at Olympia Stadium which is part of the BREC system. There was a playground nearby and that was about it. That was then . . .

There is so much more to do NOW at the Perkins Rd Community Park!

There's an extreme sports complex including

And I haven't talked about the rock climbing wall, the baseball fields, and the recreation center where they offer Zumba, and other fitness classes, and martial arts, and dance lessons. And tennis courts, volley ball courts, basketball courts, soccer fields, and more! They have summer camps and a wide variety of special events.

I really didn't realize how much was here. I think I'm going to sign up for a dance class!
